About the Cabin

Hello and thank you for finding our cabin. Before we begin, we wanted take care of some house cleaning chores first.  You may or may not be aware that our cabin is listed on VRBO.com and we have always liked their site a lot until recently.  Not long ago, Expedia purchased the VRBO/HomeAway rental site and took away the home owners and guests ability to communicate with each other. This has lead to poor reviews about VRBO/HomeAway in general as a company. We agree 100% with those poor reviews. So, long story short, if you happen to find our place on this site before booking, please call us directly so that we can discuss our rental process and answer any questions you might have.

Rainbow Reel was completed in November 2013 as a brand new vacation home/cabinOur home/cabin is our pride and joy.

We are pleased to open our doors to other responsible families who will treat our beautiful cabin with respect and who would enjoy making some family memories that will last a lifetime.

If you are looking for a great vacation spot that doesn't take several hours of drive time to reach, then consider our cabin.  We are located about 1 hour north of Grand Rapids in beautiful Newaygo County. Many people think that you have to drive way up north to Traverse City or beyond to have that "Up North" feeling and that's not true! We too, used to think the same way until we found this property and built our deam cabin on it in 2013.  Save the drive time, save $$ and spend more of your precious vacation time relaxing rather than behind the wheel of a car fighting traffic and crowded cities.  Once you've experienced Rainbow Reel, you'll want to keep this place all to yourself. ;)

Reserve your spot at one of Michigan's Best Kept Secrets!!!

The home/cabin is completely NON-SMOKING!!!!!

No Parties!... Again, NO PARTIES!  Thank you!

About the home/cabin.

The cabin boasts over 1500 sq' of living space on two floors.  The main floor has two bedrooms (the Bear Den with a queen bed, and the Moose Room with a full over full bunk) a full bathroom, a laundry room and a large Great Room/kitchen/dining area combined which incorporates half of the house. There are enough beds to sleep 9 individuals. If you have more than nine up to our maximum of 12 individuals, the large open loft area could also be used to sleep, provided you bring an air mattress or sleeping bags and all associated bedding (blankets, sheets, pillows).

The ceiling is 21' high in the Great Room with a full sized 1930's Cedar Strip canoe hanging in the rafters.  The Great Room area is decked out with rustic oak hardwood flooring and beautiful knotty pine paneling.  This room will leave you breathless!!!

Follow the open staircase upstairs to the second floor and you'll find a large loft area overlooking the Great Room and don't forget to look out the upper windows and catch a great view of the river flowing past.  Upstairs, you'll also find another full bath and the third bedroom (the Loon's Nest with a built in queen bed and a built in twin bed).

Outside, you'll be surrounded by wooded paradise.  With only one neighbor within sight, you're sure to find more privacy than you could ever imagine.  The cabin sits about 21 ft. above the rivers surface and provides a really unique setting.  The night sky is so dark that the stars feel like they are just inches from your face.  You'll also see plenty of wildlife such as deer, turkeys, Blue Herons, ducks and Bald Eagles.

We have added some outdoor games/activities for the summer months such as: horseshoes, ladder ball, corn hole game, a kids play set with a house...slide...swings....and a sandbox.

For relaxation, (from late spring through late fall) we have a hammock, a wooden swing overlooking the river, lounge chairs, patio table/chair set under the pergola, a screened in porch with a comfortable conversation patio set and we also have a 6' picnic table overlooking the river (conversation patio set and picnic table available year round). There is a fire ring with provided firewood for your campfire desires. We have also provided a GAS GRILL for grilling, (note, this grill is not to be used as a "SMOKER", use it as it's intended purpose, GRILLING!)

The White River is what we would consider a nice family friendly river.  By this we mean that it's not so small that you can't do anything with it and it's not so big (like the Grand River or the Muskegon River) that it can be on the more dangerous side.  Most of the river is gravel with some sand bars.  The average depth is typically about 18"-24" and the average width of the river is about 50' wide.  The water current is moderate and the water temperatures are cool, only reaching about 70-72 degrees in mid/late summer. It's a great river for tubing and kayaking. (Tubes and Kayaks not provided) If you like to fish, bring your poles and wade in the river fishing for Brook, Brown and Rainbow Trout.

We ALWAYS advise that children to be accompanied an adult and wear a life jacket when in or near the river.  Simply for safety.  As parents of young children ourselves, this would be our recommendation no matter which body of water our cabin was on.

The home/cabin is completely NON-SMOKING!!!!!
